Music Ministry

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly... singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God."  (Col 3:16
)

ChoirWe are thankful for an active Music Ministry here at St. John the Baptist.  Music has been a very important part of our Sacred Liturgy for decades under the leadership of former Director Arlene Chapman (now retired) and continues to be so with our new leadership.

Geraldine Veroneau is our Music and Choir Director, since the Autumn of 2014.  Our choir sings at the 10 AM Mass on  most every Sunday as well as on special celebrations.  Our Sunday music is traditional as well as inspirational, featuring Entrance and Communion antiphons and chant, with rotating cantors.

Blanche Proulx, our long-time and devoted organist, leads us in song with her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanine and David Eaton, on Saturdays, at the 4 PM Vigil Mass.

Choir Rehearsals:
Our choir rehearses every Monday at 6:30 PM in the choir loft of the church.  (During Advent and Lent, in preparation for Christmas and Easter, respectively, extra rehearsals are held on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM.)

From our Director:
"Anyone with an interest in Music ministry is welcomed and encouraged to come to a rehearsal and try us out.  You do not need to make a definite commitment of every Sunday and you do not need to read music to be part of the choir.  We have added new members and are always happy to welcome more!"

Congregational Singing:
The Sacred Liturgy of the Mass is designed with music as an integral part of prayer and worship.  Let's not have the choir sing alone, but raise our voices with them to God!  To learn what we are singing for the Propers on Sundays this season, click HERE

We also have a Children's Choir, under the directorship of Vivian Doan, which sings at the Christmas Children's Mass and sometimes other occasions during the year. Please call the parish office for more information.

From the Catechism:
“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as a combination of sacred music and words, it forms a necessary or integral part of solemn liturgy.” (CCC para #1156)
